Toby Stephens v Berkhamsted (Viv Curtis)
The Yellows’ are back on the motorway this weekend where the opposition will be Dorset side Wimborne, who we have yet to play. Tim Sill's team are a couple of wins from safety and occupy 12th place in the table. Last Saturday, Plymouth Parkway were their opponent’s and the relegation threatened team edged them out 3-2.
Tiverton's midweek exit to Bovey Tracey in the St Lukes Devon Bowl Trophy though was not the most uplifting result. Despite Personnel being affected by cup tied Player's and a few injuries, with the return of regular starters they will be hoping for a better showing.
Our plight has seen plenty of opportunities for younger player’s at the club, giving the coaching team food for thought. A few of those players have taken their chance’s and others continue their development. Although as fan’s a sense of realism has been around for a while.
Wimborne have stuttered a bit, after sitting in the top half of the table in the opening months of the season, but you would have thought it would take a massive capitulation for them to be in danger of being relegated.
Manager Tim Sill's is remembered fondly by Pilgrim's fans, in his playing days for his striking exploits with Argyle. One of those goal's firing Plymouth back into the EFL.
A well publicised cut in the playing budget at the start of the campaign, saw an exodus of key players and he has reinforced his squad impressively.
Leading the way in the goal's department is Will Fletcher with Ten. The ex Dorchester and Poole Centre Forward has looked more and more the part in this division with every passing season. This is his second full term with the Magpies and he has established himself at Wimborne.
The goals have been shared around and Two signing's in the close season have made good contributions in finding the net.
Young forward Max Bustamante is an ex Chile youth international and is a talented prospect. Berkamsted's leading scorer in the 2023/24 season has also gained invaluable experience in the Southern League Premier South in Playing for; Sholing, Beaconsfield and King's Langley.
Another player to catch the eye this season is the skilful and pacy Lewis Williams. Stepping up from Andover New Street, has hit the ground running at the Magpies and was originally a an academy player for National League Eastleigh.
Despite a tightening of the purse strings, Sill's was able to make one big name signing for the new term, bringing in Josh McQuoid from Weymouth. The fan favourite there, who has dropped back into midfield after a notable career as a Forward in the EFL, has been a mainstay for Wimborne.
The 36 yr old is a full Northern Ireland international. He made over 100 EFL appearances for Bournemouth, playing in the Championship for Burnley and Millwall aside. Peterborough, Coventry, Luton and Stevenage are the technical schemer's other EFL clubs.
Cultured and creative fellow midfielder Josh Carmichael is another with pedigree. The influential Carmichael played Four times for Bournemouth in the EFL. A strong operator in this division, his footballing Abilities have seen him play higher in Non League term's.
The 31 year old’s talent’s have seen him play for Weymouth when they were higher up the pyramid, Poole, Salisbury and Totton. He also had a spell with Torquay in the 2015/16 season.
Joe Ryan began playing for Wimborne last season, though because of their midfield strength was loaned to Fareham for the majority of it . The gifted performer has broke into the side this term and is another to have played for Eastleigh in his formative year's.
The Eastleigh connection doesn't stop there, because also a mainstay of the Magpies’ midfield is Cameron Munn. Closing in on 100 league games for the club, Munn is a lively attacking midfielder, with good quality on the ball. Munn played a few games for Eastleigh in the 2021/22 campaign.
The Centre back pairing of Sam Jackson and Sam Robert's were separated earlier in the season, when the latter was injured. Roberts is noted for his strong organisation and leadership skill's, which were honed playing for the likes of Gosport and Salisbury.
The dependable defender is joined by Sam Jackson. Learning his trade with Dorset rival's Dorchester and Poole, the commanding Jackson has been a constant at Wimborne over the past Three seasons.
Likewise Defender's Billy Walker and Owen Roundell give plenty of strength to the Magpies’ backline. The combative Walker has been integral to the Dorset side, similarly to Jackson in recent campaign’s
Roundell was a regular for league rival's Sholing for over Ten seasons. The defender has untold experience and has been an important piece of player recruitment, this term.
Oscar Abbotson is Wimborne's current number One. The young Goalkeeper is a Southampton loanee and appears to have a good future, ahead of him.
Asa Hall's men will once again try to turn the tide and take something away from Wimborne on Saturday.
