Yellows’ Swoop For Gulls’ Ace Palmer

Central defender Ed Palmer who played in the National South play off final for Torquay, where the Gulls suffered extra time heartbreak at the hands of Hornchurch, has decided to make the Slee Blackwell Solicitors Stadium his home for the 2026/27 season.
This represents an excellent piece of business by Tiverton who have added significantly to their defensive armoury ahead of the new campaign. The signing is definitely a bit of coup for the Yellows’, with the ex Truro and Taunton man being on the radar of National South teams, as well as Southern League sides in both Steps 3 and 4.
The 34 year old, standing at 6 ft 1 and a half inches tall, is renowned for strong leadership qualities, his physical presence and reading of the game. It was a return to his boyhood club for Palmer, who had been an academy player and young pro for Torquay, when he signed for them again before the 2024/25 season got underway.
An impressive non league career began with him enjoying loan spells with Truro, Weymouth and Kettering as a young pro at Plainmoor. On his release from Torquay, Weymouth acquired his signature and then he spent the 2013/14 season at Tiverton Town.
Making 40 appearances in all competitions for the Yellows’, he has over 450 senior games to his name. Almost 200 of those were for Truro in National South, Southern Premier League South and other competitive fixtures.
A regular opponent of Tivvy, when playing for Truro and whilst appearing 85 times for local rivals Taunton, the highly regarded Palmer is also adept playing in the defensive midfield position. He made 75 appearances for Torquay over the previous two campaigns.
