Tiverton's latest piece of recruitment, sees vastly experienced 36 year old Central Defender Steve Walker sign on for the 2026/27 campaign.

He shared his thoughts on joining the Yellows with our media team and remarked after being asked of why he had chosen Tiverton;
“I’m excited to come here. I’ve been offered a number of opportunities at other clubs since the season finished, but Tivvy’s always been on my mind. I’ve got a good relationship with Lee Lashenko, so I’m glad to finally get it over the line.”
Standing at 6ft 4 inches tall , he is a strong and fierce competitor whose CV includes; Dorchester, Salisbury, Gosport, Frome and Havant & Waterlooville. Noted for his leadership skills, he is a strong influence on the field and a respected figure in the dressing room.
Taking a seat in the stand, he said of his playing style;
“I’m old-school, you don’t get many old-school centre halves anymore. I’m a nice lad, but when it comes to the physical side of things, as you know as a club you need someone to do that in the backline for you and that’s me.”

Not only is he from a family of three footballing brothers, who have all played to a high non league level, he is associated with the club through one of them, Mike Walker. He said about this;
“They both had good football careers and Mike was down here before(2004/5 and 2005/6 seasons) in the Martyn Roger's era. I was only 15/16 back then. My mum used to bring my brother down at the time and I used to sit in this very stand, thinking this is a decent club.”
Walker captained Bashley in the division Tiverton will be plying their trade in this term, in the 2024/25 season. The physical defender linked up with Lee Lashenko at Bridgwater, a little way into last season. That was after starting the season with Bashley.
Noted for his determination and unflinching will to win, he spoke of his ambitions for this season and commented;
“I think I know what everyone would want and that’s promotion. Where the football club is now, we want to rewrite history.”
He will definitely add some knowhow and character to the squad, that the management team are currently building.
A warm welcome Steve!
