Commercial Manager – Job Description

Organisation: Semi-Professional Football Club
Reports to: Club Vice Chairman / Board of Directors
Hours: Part-time / Flexible (including some evenings and match days)
Salary: Competitive commission-based / Negotiable depending on experience
Role Overview
The Commercial Manager will be responsible for driving the commercial growth of the football club by developing, selling, and managing sponsorship and partnership opportunities. The role focuses on generating sustainable revenue streams through sponsorships, advertising, hospitality, events, and commercial partnerships.
This is a highly proactive role requiring strong networking, relationship management, and sales ability to maximise the club’s commercial potential within the local and regional business community.
Key Responsibilities
Sponsorship & Partnerships

Renew and maintain relationships with all existing club sponsors and commercial partners.

Identify and secure new sponsorship opportunities with local, regional, and national businesses.

Develop tiered sponsorship packages offering attractive value to partners.

Create long-term commercial partnerships aligned with the club’s values and community presence.

Deliver measurable value and exposure for sponsors.
Matchday Sponsorship Sales

Promote and sell:

Matchday sponsorship packages

Match ball sponsorship
-
Player sponsorships
-
Home and Away kit Sponsors (front, back, back tail, sleeve(s)

Programme advertising

Host and manage sponsors on match days, ensuring a high-quality experience.
Stadium & Asset Naming Rights

Lead the sale of high-value commercial assets, including:

Stadium naming rights
-
Stand naming rights
-
Training ground sponsorship (future role)

Pitch-side advertising boards
-
Digital and social media advertising
-

Negotiate commercial terms and agreements.
Commercial Strategy

Develop and implement the club’s commercial strategy to maximise revenue.

Work closely with the commercial committee to identify new income streams.

Produce annual commercial revenue targets and deliver against them.

Track performance and report regularly to club leadership.
Business Development

Build relationships with local businesses, chambers of commerce, and community groups.

Attend networking events to promote the club and attract new sponsors.

Identify opportunities for joint promotions and marketing partnerships.
Hospitality & Events

Promote corporate hospitality packages.

Organise business networking events at the club.

Support fundraising dinners, sponsor events, and community engagement activities.
Marketing & Brand Promotion

Work with the club’s media/marketing team to ensure sponsor visibility across:

Social media

Website

Stadium signage

Matchday programmes

Ensure sponsors receive the agreed marketing exposure.
Administration & Reporting

Maintain accurate records of sponsorship agreements and renewals (sign off by board member).

Manage invoicing and contract documentation.

Track commercial income and report progress to the board.

Skills & Experience Required

Proven experience in sales, sponsorship, business development, or commercial management.

Excellent networking and relationship-building skills.

Strong negotiation and communication ability.

Self-motivated with a proactive approach to generating new business.

Passion for football and community sport.

Ability to work flexible hours including match days.
Desirable Experience

Experience working in sport, events, or hospitality.
